Workspaces

A Workspace groups related silos together — for example by team, department, or client — so you can keep your conversations organized and switch between them quickly.

What a Workspace is

Think of a Workspace as a folder for silos. Each Workspace holds its own set of silos, and your Workspaces appear in a switcher (the workspaces rail) along the side of the app. Selecting a Workspace filters your silo list down to just the silos in that Workspace, so you see only what's relevant to the work in front of you.

A Workspace can be private (people join by invitation) or public (people in your organization can find and join it). Silos can belong to more than one Workspace, and a silo stays end-to-end encrypted no matter which Workspace it sits in.

Switch between Workspaces

On Web & Desktop

  1. Find the workspaces rail along the left edge of the app.
  2. Select a Workspace icon to see only that Workspace's silos.
  3. Select Desk (or your personal icon) at the top of the rail to see all your silos again.

On iOS

  1. Open the Workspace switcher from the top of your silo list.
  2. Tap a Workspace to filter your silo list to that Workspace.
  3. Tap Desk to return to all of your silos.

On Android

  1. Open the Workspace switcher from the top of your silo list.
  2. Tap a Workspace to filter your silo list to that Workspace.
  3. Tap Desk to return to all of your silos.

Create a Workspace

New Workspaces are private by default. You can make a Workspace public instead, so others in your organization can find and join it.

On Web & Desktop

  1. In the workspaces rail, select the + to add a Workspace.
  2. Choose Private (invite only) or Public (anyone in your organization can find and join).
  3. Give the Workspace a name, and add an optional description.
  4. Select Create.

On iOS

  1. Open the Workspace switcher, then tap Create workspace (the +).
  2. Choose Private or Public.
  3. Enter a name, and an optional description.
  4. Tap Create.

On Android

  1. Open the Workspace switcher, then tap Create workspace (the +).
  2. Choose Private or Public.
  3. Enter a name, and an optional description.
  4. Tap Create.

Add silos and invite people

Once a Workspace exists, you can fill it with silos and bring in the people who belong there.

On Web & Desktop

  1. Open the Workspace, then open its menu (next to the Workspace name).
  2. To add silos, choose Add silo — create a new silo in the Workspace, or add an existing one.
  3. To invite people, choose Invite people and enter their PostNumbers (for example DE 0777 HSBC 0001).
  4. Send the invites.

On iOS

  1. Open the Workspace, then tap the Workspace name to open its menu.
  2. Tap Add silo to create or add silos.
  3. Tap Invite people, enter their PostNumbers, and send the invites.

On Android

  1. Open the Workspace, then tap the Workspace name to open its menu.
  2. Tap Add silo to create or add silos.
  3. Tap Invite people, enter their PostNumbers, and send the invites.

Good to know

  • Your organization may already set up Workspaces for you — for a team, department, or client — so you may join Workspaces without ever creating one.
  • Inviting someone to a Workspace lets them find the Workspace, but they still join each silo individually. Adding a silo to a Workspace doesn't automatically share it with everyone in the Workspace.
  • Leaving a Workspace is not the same as leaving its silos. When you leave a Workspace, its silos simply stop being grouped for you — you stay in any silos you're a member of, and they move back to your Desk.
  • A silo can live in more than one Workspace, so the same conversation can show up under, say, both a client Workspace and a team Workspace.
