Notifications aren't arriving¶
If Letro isn't alerting you to new messages, work through this checklist in order — the fix is usually a single setting on your device.
On iOS¶
- Open Letro and check the conversation isn't muted. Open the silo, tap its name at the top, and make sure its notification setting isn't Mute. Repeat for any silo where you're missing alerts.
- Tap your avatar in the top-left, then tap Settings > Notifications. Make sure Enable notifications for this account is on. If it's off, Letro won't notify you anywhere.
- Check the device permission — this is the most common cause. Open the iOS Settings app > Letro > Notifications, and turn on Allow Notifications. Also switch on Lock Screen, Notification Centre, and Banners so alerts actually show.
- Check Focus (Do Not Disturb). Swipe down from the top-right to open Control Centre and confirm no Focus mode is on, or add Letro as an allowed app in iOS Settings > Focus.
- Make sure you're still signed in. If Letro has signed you out, you won't get pushes until you sign back in.
- Send yourself a test message from another device or ask a colleague to message you, with Letro in the background.
On Android¶
- Open Letro and check the conversation isn't muted. Open the silo, tap its name at the top, and confirm its notification setting isn't Mute. Repeat for any silo where you're missing alerts.
- Tap your avatar in the top-left, then tap Settings > Notifications. Make sure Enable notifications for this account is on. If it's off, Letro won't notify you anywhere.
- Check the device permission — this is the most common cause. Open the Android Settings app > Apps > Letro > Notifications, and turn notifications on.
- Check Do Not Disturb. Open Android Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and either turn it off or allow Letro through it.
- Turn off battery optimization for Letro — aggressive power saving is a frequent culprit that stops the app receiving pushes in the background. In Android Settings > Apps > Letro > Battery, choose Unrestricted (wording varies by phone maker).
- Allow Letro to run in the background. In the same app info screen, make sure background activity or background data isn't restricted.
- Make sure you're still signed in, then send yourself a test message with Letro in the background.
On Web & Desktop¶
- Check the conversation isn't muted. Open the silo, click its name at the top, and confirm its notification setting isn't Mute.
- Click your avatar in the top-left, then click Settings > Notifications. Make sure Enable notifications for this account is on.
- Check your browser or system permission for Letro:
- In a browser: click the padlock or icon to the left of the address bar and set notifications for the Letro site to Allow.
- In the desktop app: open your operating system's notification settings and make sure Letro is allowed to send notifications (and isn't blocked by a focus/quiet-hours mode).
- Keep Letro open or running. In a browser tab, notifications stop if you fully close the tab; the desktop app can notify while minimized as long as it's still running.
Good to know¶
- The device permission is the usual culprit. In-app settings can all be correct, but if the operating system has notifications for Letro switched off, nothing gets through. Always check the OS-level toggle (step 3 above) first.
- A per-silo mute silences just that conversation and overrides your account default. If you're missing alerts from one silo only, check its setting — see Notifications for a conversation.
- On Android, battery optimization and Do Not Disturb can silently hold back notifications even when every Letro setting is correct. These are the two things to check after the device permission.
- Notifications are delivered while Letro runs in the background. If you force-quit the app (or your phone closes it to save power), pushes may not arrive until you reopen it.
- Letro's alerts are designed to protect your privacy — message previews and content stay encrypted, so a notification may show less detail than other apps depending on your settings.
- If everything here checks out and alerts still don't arrive on any device, it may be a wider issue worth reporting. See Common issues & fixes.
