Using Letters: send & receive

Use Letters for formal communication, document sharing, and important requests that you want to keep organized in Letro.

Security note: Letters are end-to-end encrypted. Each Letter shows the sender's name and PostNumber, helping you recognize who sent it.

Send a Letter

On iOS

  1. Open Letters from the navigation bar. If you have no Letters yet, tap Write your first Letter.
  2. Tap the + in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap To, search by name or PostNumber, select one or more recipients, then confirm your selection.
  4. To copy someone into the Letter, tap Cc and select them. This is optional.
  5. Enter a Subject, then write the body of your Letter. The recipient, subject, and body are required.
  6. To attach something, tap the paperclip and choose Take Photo or Video, Photo Library, or Attach File.
  7. Tap the upward arrow in the top-right corner to send the Letter.

On Android

  1. Open Letters by tapping the envelope in the navigation bar.
  2. Tap the +.
  3. Tap To, search by name or PostNumber, select one or more recipients, then confirm your selection.
  4. To copy someone into the Letter, tap Cc and select them. This is optional.
  5. Enter a Subject, then write the body of your Letter. The recipient, subject, and body are required.
  6. To attach something, tap the paperclip and choose a photo, video, or file.
  7. Tap the paper-plane icon in the top-right corner to send the Letter.

On Web

  1. After signing in, open Letro at app.letro.com.
  2. In the left panel, select Letters next to Desk.
  3. If you have no Letters yet, select Write your first Letter. Alternatively, select the compose icon and choose Write Letter.
  4. In the New Letter window, select Add recipients next to To.
  5. Search for a recipient by name or PostNumber. Select one or more recipients, then select Done.
  6. To send a copy to additional recipients, select Add next to Cc, choose the recipients, then select Done.
  7. Enter a Subject, write the Letter body, then select Send.

The recipient, subject, and Letter body must be completed before the Letter can be sent.

Attach a file on Web

  1. Select the paperclip icon at the bottom of the New Letter window.
  2. Choose a file from your computer, then select Upload in the file picker.
  3. Confirm that the file appears below the Letter body, then select Send.
  4. When the Upload files confirmation appears, review the file and select Upload.

The attachment appears inside the Letter after it is sent.

Format the Letter body on mobile

Select the text you want to change, then tap Aa. You can use:

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline
  • Strikethrough
  • Bulleted lists
  • Numbered lists

Save a draft on mobile

If you need to finish a Letter later:

  1. Tap the X while writing the Letter.
  2. Select Save Draft. To discard it instead, select Delete Draft.

Your saved work will be available when you return to write the Letter.

Accept a Letter from a new sender

The first Letter from someone new appears as an invitation in the Letters list.

On iOS and Android

  1. Open Letters.
  2. Find the invitation, or select the Invites filter.
  3. Select Accept to read the Letter and receive future Letters from that sender.

On Web

  1. Select the Invites filter or open the item marked Letter invite.
  2. Review the sender's name and PostNumber.
  3. Choose one of these options:

  4. Accept — join the Letter thread and read the Letter.

  5. Decline — reject the invitation.
  6. Decline and block — reject the invitation and block the sender.

Read and reply to a Letter

On iOS and Android

  1. Open Letters, then select the Letter you want to read.
  2. Select Reply below the Letter you are responding to.
  3. Write your reply. The existing subject is selected automatically, but you can change it.
  4. If needed, add more people to To or Cc.
  5. Add any attachments, then select the send icon.

Each reply stays in the same Letter thread, where you can see the Letters exchanged by everyone involved.

On Web

  1. Select a Letter from the list.
  2. Select Reply at the bottom of the Letter.
  3. Review the existing To, Cc, and Subject information in the reply window.
  4. Add or remove recipients if needed.
  5. Write your reply and add an attachment if needed.
  6. Select Send.

The reply remains in the same Letter thread.

Forward a Letter

On iOS and Android

  1. Open the Letter and select Forward below the Letter you want to share.
  2. Add one or more recipients.
  3. Write an optional message to accompany the forwarded Letter.
  4. Select the send icon.

The original subject, body, and attachments are included in the forwarded Letter.

On Web

  1. Open the Letter you want to forward.
  2. Select Forward at the bottom of the Letter.
  3. Select Add recipients next to Forward To.
  4. Search for and select one or more recipients, then select Done.
  5. Add Cc recipients if needed.
  6. Write an optional accompanying message, then select Send.

The original subject and content appear inside the forwarded Letter.

View sender and recipient details on Web

Select the arrow next to the To line at the top of a Letter. The expanded section shows:

  • The sender's name and PostNumber
  • The recipients' names and PostNumbers

See who has opened a Letter on mobile

On a Letter you sent, tap the information icon in the top-right corner of its card. Seen by shows who has opened that Letter and when.

Manage an individual Letter

On iOS and Android

Press and hold an individual Letter to open its actions.

  • Pin Letter — keeps the Letter in the pinned area at the top of the Letter thread. You can also find pinned Letters in Settings.
  • Reply — writes a response to that Letter.
  • Forward — sends the Letter to other recipients.
  • Remove Letter — deletes that Letter.

On Web

Right-click an individual Letter to open its action menu. You can:

  • Reply
  • Pin or Unpin
  • Forward
  • Share
  • Remove

A pinned Letter appears in the pinned area at the top of the thread.

To remove a Letter:

  1. Select Remove from the action menu.
  2. Optionally enter a reason.
  3. Select Remove again to confirm.

Manage a Letter from the list on mobile

Press and hold a Letter in the Letters list to open these actions:

  • Mark as unread
  • Favourite
  • Settings
  • Leave

If you select Leave, confirm that you want to leave. You will no longer be able to see that Letter thread.

Good to know

  • On iOS and Android, use the Unread, Invites, Sent, and Favorites filters to find Letters more quickly.
  • On Web, use the Unread, Invites, Internal, and External filters.
  • Pinned Letters appear at the top of the Letter thread and in Settings.
  • Letter settings also include shared media and files, people, notifications, favourite, mute, and security and privacy options.
