A quick tour of the app

A short walkthrough of Letro's main screens so you know where everything lives before you start.

When you sign in, Letro opens to Desk, where you can access your Directs, Silos, recent activity, and filters.

The main areas

  • Conversation list. Your silos (group conversations) and one-to-one chats, most recent at the top. Selecting one opens it.
  • Filters. A bar above the list lets you narrow it down — for example to Unreads, Directs, Silos, or Favourites — so you can find a conversation fast. See Filters & sorting the silo list.
  • Workspaces. If your organization uses Workspaces, you'll see a switcher to jump between them. A workspace groups related silos together (for example by team or project). See Workspaces.
  • Search. A search control lets you find conversations, people, and messages. See Search messages & files.
  • Start a conversation. A + (or compose) control is where you create a new silo or start a 1:1 chat.
  • Your avatar / settings. Your profile picture opens your account and app settings, where you manage security, notifications, appearance, and more.

Inside a conversation

When you open a silo or chat, you'll see:

  • The message timeline — the conversation history, with the newest messages at the bottom.
  • The composer at the bottom, where you type a message, add files, record a voice message, or add emoji.
  • The silo header at the top, showing the conversation name and giving you access to call buttons and silo info (people, shared files, settings).

Finding your way around

  • Tap or click a conversation in the list to open it; use the back control (or the list) to return.
  • On phones, the list and the open conversation are separate screens you move between. On Web and Desktop, you see the list and the open conversation side by side.
  • Your settings are always reachable from your avatar, no matter where you are in the app.

Good to know

  • Set up your security first. Before you dive in, complete the secure backup and recovery key prompts — see Set up secure backup & key storage. This is the most important thing to do as a new user.
  • The app looks slightly different per platform. The same features are on Web, iOS, and Android, but controls may sit in slightly different places — this help center notes the differences where they matter.
  • Nothing is public by default. Your conversations are private and end-to-end encrypted; you choose who you talk to and which silos you join.
