Deactivate your account

Close your Letro account so you can no longer sign in and your PostNumber stops working. This is a serious, hard-to-undo step — read the whole page before you start.

Security note: Deactivation is permanent for all practical purposes. It signs you out on every device, retires your PostNumber so no one can reach you there, and you usually cannot reverse it on your own. Save anything you need — files, links, important messages — before you begin. Because your chats are end-to-end encrypted, no one at Letro can recover your message history for you afterward.

Before you deactivate

  • Export or save what matters. Once you deactivate, you lose access to your silos and messages. Download any files or copy any details you'll need later.
  • Tell the people who need to know. Contacts and silos that rely on your PostNumber will lose you.
  • Check who owns your account. If your organization manages your Letro account, you may not be able to deactivate it yourself — and reactivation, where it's possible at all, is handled by your admin or Letro. See Good to know below.

On Web & Desktop

  1. Click your profile picture in the top-left, then open Settings.
  2. Go to the Account section.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and select Deactivate account.
  4. Read the warning carefully. Confirm your identity if prompted (for example, by entering your password).
  5. Select Deactivate to finish. You'll be signed out immediately.

On iOS

  2. Tap the Account section.
  3. Scroll down and tap Deactivate account.
  4. Read the warning, then confirm your identity if prompted.
  5. Tap Deactivate to finish. You'll be signed out on this device.

  2. Tap the Account section.
  3. Scroll down and tap Deactivate account.
  4. Read the warning, then confirm your identity if prompted.

Good to know

  • This is generally not reversible by you. Treat deactivation as final. Don't use it as a way to take a short break — if you just want a quieter Letro, adjust your notifications instead of deactivating.
  • Your PostNumber becomes unusable. After deactivation, your address stops working and typically can't be reassigned or reclaimed. Anyone who messages it won't reach you.
  • You're signed out everywhere. Every session and device is logged out as part of deactivation.
  • Organization-managed accounts are different. If your organization provided your account, deactivation may be controlled by your admin rather than available to you directly. Check with your admin before acting.
  • Reactivation isn't a simple self-service step. If reactivating is possible at all, it usually means contacting your organization's admin or Letro support — and there's no guarantee your old PostNumber or history can be restored. Don't rely on getting your account back.
