FAQ — Calls & Threads¶
Quick answers to the questions people ask most about voice and video calls in Letro, and about keeping conversations organized with threads.
How do I start a call?¶
Open the conversation or silo you want to call, then select the voice or video call icon in the silo header. This uses Letro Call, Letro's built-in calling. In a 1:1 chat it rings the other person; in a silo it starts a group call others can join. See Start a voice or video call.
Are Letro calls encrypted?¶
Yes. Every Letro Call is end-to-end encrypted, just like your messages, so only the people on the call can see or hear it — not the network, and not Letro. A shared screen is protected the same way.
Can I make group calls or join one that's already happening?¶
Yes. Starting a call in a silo creates a group call, and anyone in the silo can join from the join call banner at the top. If a call is already in progress, select that banner to join it. See Start a voice or video call.
Can I share my screen?¶
On Web and Desktop, select Share screen in the call controls and choose a window, a browser tab, or your whole screen. On mobile, screen sharing may be available depending on your device and app version. See During a call.
What controls do I have during a call?¶
You can mute or unmute your microphone, turn your camera on or off, see who's on the call, share your screen, and leave. Leaving a group call doesn't end it for everyone else — the call continues until the last person leaves. See During a call.
What is a thread, and when should I use one?¶
A thread is a mini-conversation attached to one message. Use a thread when you want a focused side-conversation without cluttering the silo's main timeline — handy in busy silos with several topics going at once. See Threads.
How do I reply in a thread and find threads later?¶
Open the message's options and choose Reply in thread (long-press the message on mobile). To find every thread in a silo, select the threads icon in the silo header for the full list, newest activity first. See Threads.
Do threads notify me differently?¶
They can. A thread you're part of may notify you separately from the main silo, and the unread dot on the threads icon tracks thread replies on its own. You can fine-tune this in your silo notification settings. See Silo notifications.
