Share a silo

Invite people into a silo by handing them a Letro share link or a QR code — a quick way to let the right people join.

Security note: A share link is a key. If the silo allows link-based access, anyone who receives the link can join and read everything posted from the moment they arrive. Only share links for silos meant to be reachable that way. For sensitive silos, invite people directly by their PostNumber instead.

How joining depends on access settings

Sharing a link or QR code doesn't, on its own, let someone in. What happens when they open it depends on the silo's access setting:

  • Anyone with a link — the person can join themselves straight away.
  • Private (invite only) — the link only shows them the silo exists; they still need an invite before they can join.
  • Workspace members — they can join if they belong to the workspace that grants access.

So share the link freely only for silos set to Anyone with a link. For everything else, sending the link is not the same as granting access.

On Web & Desktop

  1. Open the silo and click the silo name in the header to open silo info.
  2. Click Share (or the share icon).
  3. Copy the Letro share link to send it in a message, or show the QR code for someone to scan with their phone.
  4. Send the link to the people you want in the silo — or let them point their camera at the QR code.

On iOS

  1. Open the silo and tap the silo name at the top to open silo info.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Choose Copy link to share the Letro share link, or show the QR code for someone to scan.
  4. Send the link through your preferred app, or have the other person scan the code.

On Android

  1. Open the silo and tap the silo name at the top to open silo info.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Choose Copy link to share the Letro share link, or show the QR code for someone to scan.
  4. Send the link through your preferred app, or have the other person scan the code.

Good to know

  • A QR code carries the same link. Scanning it opens the exact same Letro share link — it's just faster when the person is next to you. Treat it with the same care.
  • The link doesn't expire on its own. It keeps working as long as the silo allows link-based access. If a link has spread too far, tighten the silo's access setting or switch it back to invite-only to close the door.
  • Tightening access later doesn't remove people who already joined. Anyone who used the link while the silo was open stays a member. Remove them separately if they shouldn't be there.
  • Direct messages can't be shared this way. A one-to-one chat is private to the two people in it and has no share link or QR code.
  • Prefer direct invites for confidential silos. Inviting someone by their PostNumber puts you in control of exactly who gets in, with no link circulating that you can't fully track.
