Reactions, emoji & polls¶
React to a message with an emoji, or gather quick input with a poll — both are fast ways to respond without adding another message to the conversation.
Security note: Reactions and poll votes are end-to-end encrypted like the rest of your conversation. Only people in the silo can see who reacted or how they voted.
Add an emoji reaction¶
Reactions let you acknowledge a message — a thumbs-up, a heart, a checkmark — without typing a reply. They appear as small pills under the message, with a count for each emoji.
On Web & Desktop¶
- Hover over the message you want to react to.
- In the message action bar that appears, click the React (smiley face) icon.
- Pick an emoji from the picker. Use the search box at the top to find one by name, or browse the categories.
- The reaction appears under the message. To add another, click the + on the reaction row and choose again.
On iOS¶
- Long-press the message you want to react to.
- In the action sheet, tap an emoji from the quick row, or tap More to open the full picker.
- Tap the emoji you want. The reaction appears under the message.
On Android¶
- Long-press the message you want to react to.
- Tap an emoji from the quick row, or tap More to open the full picker.
- Tap the emoji you want. The reaction appears under the message.
See who reacted¶
- Web & Desktop: hover over a reaction pill to see the names of everyone who added that emoji.
- iOS & Android: tap and hold (or tap) a reaction pill to open the list of people who reacted.
Remove your reaction¶
- Tap or click the reaction pill again to take your emoji back. If you were the only person who reacted with it, the pill disappears.
Good to know¶
- A reaction pill shows a running count. When several people use the same emoji, the number goes up rather than adding new pills.
- Your own reactions are highlighted so you can tell at a glance which ones you added.
- Reactions don't send a notification the way a reply does, so they're a quiet way to respond.
- The emoji picker remembers your recently used emoji to make common reactions faster.
Polls¶
Polls let you ask a quick question and let everyone in the silo vote, with results tallied for you.
Create a poll¶
On Web¶
- Open the silo where you want to run the poll.
- Select the three-dot menu next to the message box, then select Poll.
- Choose a poll type:
- Open poll — voters see the results after they vote.
- Closed poll — results are revealed after you end the poll.
- Enter the poll question and the answer options. Select Add option if you need more.
- Select Create Poll.
On iOS and Android¶
- Open the silo where you want to run the poll.
- Tap the + next to the message box, then tap Poll.
- Enter the poll question and the answer options. Tap Add option if you need more.
- Turn on Show results only after poll ends if you want to hide the results until you end the poll. Leave it off to show results after each person votes.
- Tap Create poll.
Vote and see results¶
- Find the poll card in the conversation.
- Tap or click one option to vote.
- To change your vote while the poll is open, select a different option.
An open poll shows the results after you vote. A closed poll, or a mobile poll with Show results only after poll ends turned on, reveals the results when the poll creator ends it.
Edit or end your poll¶
Only the person who created a poll can edit or end it. You can edit a poll only before it receives its first vote.
- Web: right-click the poll, or hover over it and open its action menu. Select Edit or End Poll.
- iOS and Android: long-press the poll, then tap Edit poll or End poll.
After a poll ends, no one can vote or change a vote, and the final results remain visible in the conversation.
