FAQ — Account & Chat

Quick answers to the questions people ask most about signing in, their profile, and everyday chatting in Letro.

How do I sign in to Letro?

You can sign in with Google or with a PostNumber (or username) and password, depending on how your account was set up. If your organization uses a Dedicated Server, you'll also enter your server details at sign-in; everyone else connects automatically. See Create your account for the full walkthrough.

What is my PostNumber?

Your PostNumber is your unique identity in Letro. You use it to sign in and help other people find you.

If you create your own account, you choose the numeric part of your PostNumber. It must be available and not reserved. A personal PostNumber looks like CH 6578 9.

If you're an organization member, your organization provides your PostNumber. It includes a country code, batch code, organization prefix, and member number, such as DE 0777 HSBC 0001. Your organization chooses the batch code and organization prefix.

How do I change my display name or photo?

Open your profile settings to update your display name and add or change your photo. Your display name is what other people see next to your messages, so pick something your colleagues will recognize. See Set up your profile for step-by-step help.

How do I start a chat with someone?

To message one person, start a direct message using their PostNumber. To talk with several people at once, create a group silo and invite everyone you need. See Direct messages and Silos to get started.

Can I edit or delete a message after I send it?

Yes. You can edit a message to fix a typo or delete it if you sent it by mistake. Editing shows an "edited" note so the change is clear to others. For details, see Send messages.

Is my chat really private?

Yes. Letro messages are protected with end-to-end encryption, which means only you and the people in the conversation can read them, not even Letro. To understand how this works, see How encryption works.

What if I get locked out of my account?

If you forget your password or lose access to your device, you can recover your account, usually with your recovery key or by resetting your password. It's worth setting this up before you need it. See Recover your account.

Can I use Letro on more than one device?

Yes. You can sign in to Letro on Web, Desktop, iOS, and Android, and your chats stay in sync across all of them. Each device is verified so your encrypted messages stay secure everywhere you use Letro.
