What are Letters

Letters are Letro's secure, letter-style messages — for the longer, more formal, or more official communication that doesn't fit an ordinary chat message.

Security note: Like everything in Letro, Letters are end-to-end encrypted and stay inside Letro's encrypted environment. They give you the "official document" feel of email without email's exposure — no external mail servers, and a sender identity you can actually trust.

The idea

Everyday chat is great for quick back-and-forth. But some communication is different — a formal notice, a considered reply to a client, a record you want to keep, something you'd normally have sent as an email or an attached letter. Letters are built for exactly that: composed, letter-style messages that live inside Letro instead of your inbox.

You can think of a Letter as the secure, in-Letro equivalent of a formal email or a signed letter — but with encryption and verified identity built in.

What makes a Letter different from a chat message

  • Longer and more deliberate. A Letter is meant to be composed and read as a whole, not fired off line by line.
  • Formal and on the record. It's suited to official or considered communication you may want to keep and refer back to.
  • A trusted sender. Because it comes through Letro, the recipient can rely on who it's really from — not a spoofable "From" address.
  • Encrypted end to end. Only you and the recipient can read it; it never leaves Letro's encrypted environment.

Where Letters fit

Letters sit alongside your conversations as their own part of Letro. You reach for a Letter when a chat message is too casual or too fleeting for what you need to say — and reach for a chat when a Letter would be overkill.

Good to know

  • Letters stay inside Letro. Unlike email, a Letter isn't handed off to outside mail servers — which is what removes the spam, phishing, and interception surface that email carries. See Letters vs email.
  • The same identity guarantees apply. A Letter's sender is tied to their Letro identity (PostNumber), and the trust you build by verifying people carries over.
