Export a silo's messages

Save a silo's conversation history to a file on your computer, for record-keeping, compliance, or handover.

Security note: An export is a decrypted, plain-text copy of the conversation. Once it's saved, it lives outside Letro's encrypted environment, and Letro can no longer protect it. Treat every export as sensitive data: store it in a secure location and share it only with people who are allowed to see it.

On Web & Desktop

  1. Open the silo you want to export.
  2. Open the silo's settings. Click the silo name at the top of the conversation to open the silo info panel.
  3. Select Export chat (sometimes shown under a Settings or Advanced section of the silo info panel).
  4. Choose a format for the file:
  5. HTML — a formatted, readable page that keeps names, timestamps, and layout. Best for reading or archiving.
  6. Plain text — a simple .txt file with just the message text. Best for lightweight records or feeding into other tools.
  7. JSON — structured, machine-readable data. Best for import into another system or for automated processing.
  8. Set any optional limits if they're offered:
  9. Number of messages or a date range — export the whole history or just a recent slice.
  10. Size limit — cap how large the file can get.
  11. Include attachments — choose whether images and files are saved alongside the messages.
  12. Click Export. Letro prepares the file and downloads it to your device.

Good to know

  • Exports cover messages you can already see. If you joined the silo recently, history you were never able to read won't appear.
  • Larger silos and longer date ranges take longer to prepare and produce bigger files. Use a date range or size limit to keep exports manageable.
  • The exported file is a snapshot taken at that moment. It won't update as the conversation continues — export again when you need a fresh copy.
  • Because the file is decrypted, anyone who opens it can read it. Keep it off shared drives and personal devices unless your organization's policy allows it.

On iOS / Android

Exporting a full silo to a file is primarily a Web & Desktop task. If you need an export, do it from Letro on the desktop or in a browser.
