Silos: create, join, leave

A silo is a group conversation in Letro, where a team, project, or topic can chat together in one place.

Security note: New silos are end-to-end encrypted by default, so only members can read what's inside. Who can join depends on the silo's access settings.

Create a silo

New silos are private and encrypted by default. You can make a silo public instead, so others in your organization can find and join it.

On Web & Desktop

  1. Select the + (compose) button at the top of your silo list.
  2. Choose New silo.
  3. Give the silo a name, and add an optional topic.
  4. Choose Private (invite only) or Public (anyone can find and join).
  5. Select Create silo.

On iOS

  1. Tap the + (compose) button.
  2. Tap New silo.
  3. Enter a name, and an optional topic.
  4. Choose Private or Public.
  5. Tap Create.

On Android

  1. Tap the + (compose) button.
  2. Tap New silo.
  3. Enter a name, and an optional topic.
  4. Choose Private or Public.
  5. Tap Create.

Join a silo

You can join a silo from an invite, or by exploring public silos in your organization.

On Web & Desktop

  1. If someone invited you, the silo appears at the top of your silo list. Select it, then choose Accept.
  2. To find a public silo, select Explore silos.
  3. Browse or search the list, then select Join on the silo you want.

On iOS

  1. If you were invited, tap the invite in your silo list, then tap Accept.
  2. To find a public silo, tap Explore silos.
  3. Search or browse, then tap Join.

On Android

  1. If you were invited, tap the invite in your silo list, then tap Accept.
  2. To find a public silo, tap Explore silos.
  3. Search or browse, then tap Join.

Leave a silo

Leaving a silo removes it from your list. You'll need a new invite, or to rejoin from Explore, to come back.

On Web & Desktop

  1. Open the silo, then open Silo info.
  2. Select Leave silo, and confirm.

On iOS

  1. Open the silo, then tap the silo name to open Silo info.
  2. Tap Leave silo, and confirm.

On Android

  1. Open the silo, then tap the silo name to open Silo info.
  2. Tap Leave silo, and confirm.

Good to know

  • Messages in a silo are end-to-end encrypted. Letro can't read them, and neither can anyone outside the silo.
  • A private silo is invite only. A public silo can be found and joined by people in your organization through Explore.
  • Leaving a public silo doesn't delete it. Other members keep their conversation, and you can rejoin later.
  • If you leave an encrypted silo, you may lose access to the message history you can currently see. Rejoining doesn't always restore older messages.
