Set up & administer your Dedicated Server

What's involved in provisioning your organization's Letro Dedicated Server, choosing where its data lives, and administering users, devices, and access.

Security note: The choices you make here — your data-residency jurisdiction and your access and device governance — are the controls that make a Dedicated Server compliant for regulated work. Set them deliberately, and review them as your organization changes.

Who this is for

This page is for the person administering a Dedicated Server on behalf of an organization — not for everyday users, who just sign in. If you're a regular user, see Create your account & first sign-in instead.

1. Provisioning your environment

After you arrange a Dedicated Server (see How to buy a Dedicated Server), Letro provisions a dedicated, isolated environment for your organization on AWS or a selected European cloud provider. This is your own private Letro communication environment, separate from any shared service.

2. Choosing your data-residency jurisdiction

Your environment is hosted in the jurisdiction you choose — for example the EU, Switzerland, Germany, or another supported region — so your data stays where your GDPR and sector obligations require.

  • Choose the region against your compliance requirements, not just proximity.
  • Confirm the choice before your environment goes live, as data residency is foundational to the deployment.

3. Administering users, devices & access

Once your environment is live, administration centers on governing who belongs, which devices are trusted, and who can reach your most sensitive spaces:

  • Users & identity — issue company-owned Letro identities (PostNumbers) so people use organizational identities, not personal phone numbers, and can be onboarded and offboarded cleanly.
  • Trusted devices — govern which devices are allowed to access your environment.
  • Access to sensitive spaces — control who can reach your most confidential silos and workspaces.
  • External communication — allow, approve, or route outside contact through managed guest access rather than unmanaged channels.

Good to know

  • Content stays encrypted and unreadable to Letro, including on your own Dedicated Server — administration governs access and identity, not the ability to read message content. See How Letro protects your messages.
  • Governance is ongoing, not one-time. Revisit trusted devices, access, and guest permissions as people join, move, and leave.
  • Everyday security still applies to every user — secure backup, recovery keys, and verification work the same for users on a Dedicated Server. Point new users to Set up secure backup & key storage.
