Start a 1:1 chat¶
Start a private, one-to-one conversation with someone by their PostNumber.
Security note: A direct chat is end-to-end encrypted, so only you and the other person can read it. To be sure you're really talking to the right person, verify them.
A 1:1 is a private conversation between just the two of you. You start one by entering the other person's PostNumber — such as CH 6578 9 or DE 0777 HSBC 0001 — or by finding them in your directory.
On Web & Desktop¶
- In the left panel, select the + (New chat) button, then choose Start chat.
- In the search box, type the person's PostNumber or their name.
- Pick the right person from the results.
- Select Go (or Start chat) to open the conversation.
- Type your first message in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send.
On iOS¶
- Tap the compose button (the pencil or + icon).
- Tap Start chat.
- Type the person's PostNumber or name in the search box.
- Tap their name in the results.
- Type your first message and tap Send.
On Android¶
- Tap the compose button (the floating + or pencil icon).
- Tap Start chat.
- Type the person's PostNumber or name in the search box.
- Tap their name in the results.
- Type your first message and tap Send.
Good to know¶
- A 1:1 chat stays between the two of you. To talk with more people, create a silo instead — see Silos.
- If you can't find someone, check the spelling of their PostNumber. People outside your company won't appear in your directory; you'll need their full PostNumber.
- The first time you message someone, Letro sets up encryption for the conversation automatically. You don't have to turn anything on.
- Not sure it's really them? Verifying the person confirms their identity so no one can impersonate them.
